symptom
Error FFFFFF85 when binding lan driver to IPX
Public symbol errors after binding IPX to the LAN card.
Unable to bind IPX on NW6.0 server
IPX won't load on NW6 server.
Error: "Module IPXRTR.NLM load status AUTO FAIL"

Server was installed IP only. Binding IPX after the install.
SERVERID is commented out in AUTOEXEC.NCF
cause
If NetWare 6 is installed without IPX selected, the server will not assign a SERVERID number. When a server is installed IP only, it does not create a ServerID for the server.
fix
To bind IPX after the install of NetWare 6, edit the AUTOEXEC.NCF to assign a SERVERID. Just below the "FILE SERVER NAME" line, add a new "SERVERID" line followed by a unique 7 digit number. For example, "SERVERID 4902810".
This can also be done at the console prompt by typing "SERVERID <id>" (where <id> is a unique 7 digit number for your Network) then editing the AUTOEXEC.NCF after the line for File Server Name: SERVERID<id>
