symptom
"Error While Contacting Security Domain Infrastructure Key Server: [server name]. Error #1215"
Installing NetWare 5.1 server into a tree where the Security\KAP\W0 object (usually the CA host) points to a NetWare 6 server or a 5.1 server that has eDirectory 8.6.1 installed.
fix
1. Continue through the error.
2. Using ConsoleOne, go to properties of the Security\KAP\W0 object. Select the OTHER tab. Change the "NDSPKI:SP Key Server DN" to point to any 5.1 server in the tree that has NICI 1.5.x installed and that has a valid copy of SYS:SYSTEM\NICI\NICISDI.KEY. If there are no 5.x servers in the tree to point the W0 object to, make sure the new server has a minimum of eDirectory 85.0.0, install NICI 2.0.1 then continue with step 3.
3. Reinstall Certificate Server from the NetWare 5.1 install CD on the newly upgraded or installed server. This should obtain a copy of NICISDI.KEY, create the SAS Service Object, and create the default SSL certificates.
For additional information on NetWare 6, please see the following solution. TID #10064501 - NetWare 6 Readme Addendum
cause
The default NetWare 5.1 version of NICI (1.5.x) is incompatible with NetWare 6's version (2.0.2). eDirectory 8.6.1 requires NICI 2.0.1 as a minimum, so if it is installed on a NetWare 5.1 server, it will create the same incompatibility problem.
