symptom
Error 8884 during login
Error message: "LOGIN-4.21.15-430: The following drive mapping operation could not be completed:[ROOT S:=[servername]/[volumename]:] Error code: 8884."
cause
The problem only occurs if SLP is disabled and you are attempting to connect to a 3.x or 4.x server. The client requests the internal IPX address of the server but does not use it to establish the connection.
fix
Enabling SLP can be used as a workaround
This is fixed in the latest client. Visit download.novell.com for the latest updates.
