Troubleshooting:

Use the following questions to help isolate the problem to a piece of hardware,  a protocol,  a client version,   a driver,  a conflicting piece of software,  etc.

-  Specifiy the Tree name, Context AND Server IP address in the NetWare Login | Advanced |  NDS tab.
-  Verify that the proper protocol is bound to the NIC at the server.
-  At the workstation force the frame type to the correct frame instead of auto detecting it - set at the protocol.
-  On NT servers enter the a unique internal network number instead of zero - set at the protocol.
-  Install client IPX only in IPX only networks.
-  Try a new LAN card. - trying a different vendor can eliminate the NIC and the driver.
-  Update the LAN driver. - download latest version from vendors website.
-  Try a different version of the client. - download the latest version from Novell Downloads
-  Try the MS client. - If the failure still occurs with the Microsoft client for NetWare networks then the Novell client is not at fault.
-  Faulty cable, connector.
-  Faulty router, or port.
-  On NT change protocol provider order in client. - set under bindings.
-  What services or applications are running that are causing a conflict. - start with a clean install of the workstation OS and then add the Novell client. Then start adding all applications until failure occurs.
-  Was it an imaged machine - bad image? - eliminate image by installing one machine with an original Microsoft OS CD-ROM. Then install the client and test.
-  See if you get the same error from different places.  IE:  the browse tree or browse context button on the client login screen,  from Network Neighborhood,  from explorer,  from My computer,  etc.
- Identify if problem occurs on multiple workstations or is isolated to one machine. - if problem is related to multiple workstations then the error is most likely caused by the network or server configuration/failure.
- If problem occurs on multiple workstations then does it only occur with a certain version of client OS. - if problem occurs on single OS version then most likely cause could be software conflicts with the client.
- If problem occurs on multiple workstations then does it only occur with certain hardware configurations. - check hardware drivers.
