fact
NetWare 5.0
NetWare 4.2
NetWare 4.11
Novell NFS 2.x
Novell Unix Print Services 2.x
Novell FTP Server
symptom
FTP no longer functions after removing and recreating DS
Novell Unix Print Services or NFS can also cease to function
cause
The Unix Service Handler object no longer exists in DS.
fix
Recreate the Unix Service Handler object:
1) Run UNISTOP (not always necessary but is good to clean things up).
2) Run UNISTART (always necessary before loading Unicon).
3) LOAD UNICON /L NWNFS.
This recreates the Unix Service Handler object and all other NDS objects related to FTP, NFS, and UXPS. These include Unicon Manager, Unicon Host Manager, Unicon Services Manager, Unicon User/Group Manager, and Imported NETDB User & Group objects.
