symptom

Can Support Pack 4 for NetWare 5 be applied to NetWare 5.1?

cause

NW5SP4.EXE service pack IS NOT designed for NetWare 5.1, and must not be applied onto NetWare 5.1 server.

fix

NW5SP4 NLMs must be removed from NetWare 5.1 server. There two methods to do this:
Method 1:
Mount NetWare 5.1 OS CD.
LOAD NWCONFIG.NLM.
Go to COPY FILES OPTIONS.
Select the path to NetWare 5.1 OS CD (Default path is NW51:\INSTALL\NLS\4).
Make sure everything is selected.
Press F10 to start copying NetWare 5.1 files to the server.
Choose ALWAYS OVERRIDE NEWER FILES if prompted.
Reboot the server after it's completed.
On Console Prompt, type UINSTALL SPACK to remove NW5SP4 entry in PRODUCTS.DAT.

Method 2:
Boot from NetWare 5.1 OS CD.
Choose UPGRADE to reupgrade the server to NetWare 5.1.
Choose ALWAYS OVERRIDE NEWER FILES if prompted.
Reboot the server after it's completed.
On Console Prompt, type UINSTALL SPACK to remove NW5SP4 entry in PRODUCTS.DAT.

After completed one of the method above, if GUI screen fills only half of screen and looks compressed, on Console Prompt, type SYS:JAVA\NWGFX\DEF_RSP.NCF. This resets the GUI video mode back to standard VGA.
