cause
The Novell Client runs with MFC42.DLL version 4.21.7022 or later. MFC42.DLL version 6.00.8267.0 is installed when you install Novell Client. If an older version is installed over the version installed by Novell Client, the client login fails with an error message similar to the ones above. The actual message might vary, depending on the version of MFC42.DLL you are using.
The error will occur also if, during a client install, the MFC42.DLL is not placed into the \System32 directory.
fix
Bendata Heat version 5.01 is compatible with the version of MFC42.DLL that ships with the client.
To recover from this error:
1. Reinstall the correct version of MFC42.DLL. You can find the correct file on the ZENworks CD at:
D:\PRODUCTS\WINNT\i386\LIBS32\MFC42.DLL
2. Copy the DLL to the following directory on your workstation:
%SystemRoot%\system32
3. Copying MFC42.DLL will fail if some component is using the file. If the copy fails, try renaming %SystemRoot%\system32\mfc42.old and then copy again.
NOTE: The error may put you into a loop which will not allow you to access the desktop of the workstation with the problem. If that happens you will need an emergency repair disk, to allow you to access the desktop or get to a DOS prompt. Once there you can rename the SystemRoot%\system32\NWGINA.DLL. You will then want to copy MSGINA.DLL (found in the same directory) to the name NWGINA.DLL. Doing this is a workaround that allows the Microsoft Gina to be called at bootup instead of the NetWare Gina, you will then be able to logon to the workstation and make the necessary changes.
It may also be possible to go to a different NT machine, map a drive the problem station using the IP address or machine name, then login.
