symptom

INSTALL.NLM | DISK OPTIONS sees only 8.4GB of available disk space on IDE hard drives larger than 8.4GB.

cause

The shipping IDE drivers before NetWare 4.2 do not support NetWare partition larger than 8.4GB.

fix

The solution is get new IDEHD.CDM AND IDEHD.DDI drivers from IWSP6.EXE or later. These new versions will support IDE hard drives larger than 8.4GB. IDEATA.HAM driver is required to use IDEHD.CDM AND IDEHD.DDI drivers.

NOTE: This specific problem DOES NOT happen with SCSI hard drives, only large IDE hard drives greater than 8.4G.
