symptom
Unable to save namespace filenames to the NetWare volume
fix
Note: In NetWare 5.x and 6 NSS volumes do not need to have name spaces added, and name spaces cannot be removed.
Note: The name space module OS2.NAM from NetWare 4.10 was replaced by LONG.NAM in NetWare 4.11.
1) At the console prompt, type LOAD (namespace.nam)
2) At the console prompt, type ADD NAME SPACE (namespace) TO VOLUME (volume name)
Example: ADD NAME SPACE LONG TO VOLUME SYS
You only need to add the name space once per volume. Do not add this line to the Autoexec.ncf file.
To verify that the name space has been added to your volume type volumes and enter to see name spaces on volumes
In some cases, once the initial name space is added, customer will not be able to save long filenames to the volume. This could be client or server related.
For workstations running Client32, you need to logout and log back in to be able to save long name files.
On a server do the following:
1) Dismount the volume
2) Run VREPAIR at the server console
3) Switch back to console screen and load V_LONG
4) Switch back to VREPAIR screen and continue vrepair
5) Remount volume
In the case that it is the SYS volume that needs the vrepair, copy the VREPAIR.NLM and V_LONG.NLM to the root of another volume or to a floppy disk ie. a: Once the copy is complete, go to the server console and type SEARCH ADD (VOLUME or A:)
