Synthetic Time in NetWare 5 When Booting
fix
When booting up a NetWare 5 server with a Timezone east of GMT (UTC) i.e. Europe, Middle East or Asia, then the server reports a synthetic time. The duration of this synthetic time is the amount of hours offset from GMT, i.e. for Europe 1 hour.
Novell is investigating the cause of this issue in order to fix the problem. Rest assured however that the problem is cosmetic and should not cause any reason for concern.
Possible workaround at this time: (but not really needed!):
- Rename DS.NLM to DS.NEW
- Insert a LOAD DS.NEW after the Timezone and servername settings in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT A ISSUE A "REPAIR TIMESTAMPS AND A DECLARE NEW EPOCH"
IT WILL CAUSE UNNECESSARY TRAFFIC, AND CAN CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS.
