Novell GroupWise 5.2

Occurrences of the above error have decreased, but not stopped all together

symptom

Error on the poa screen when a user launches the GroupWise 5.2 client

Error: "C00E Invalid Index Number"

Migrated from GroupWise 4.x to GroupWise 5.x

cause

When running a Mailbox Maintenance from the POA the check log will report a C00E error on every message database that it finds on the Post Office and will not clean up the message from the message database or any attachment from the OFFILES directories. This will cause all of these messages and attachments to be orphaned

fix

Run the Expire and Reduce from the standalone versions of GWCHK32.EXE. This will expire and reduce the messages and attachments correctly. If a company has been running the Expire and Reduce on the POA, then there are going to be many orphaned files in the OFFILES directories. To clean these up, you must run an Analyze and Fix with Contents and Fix Problems selected for User and Message Databases, on all users in the Post Office with the GWCHK32.EXE dated 12/22/97 or later.
There are also some unexplained cases where an Analyze/Fix will not correct these errors. The solution in that case is to wait until the message is deleted normally from the system.
