You are scheduled for the Outlook 98 Rollout on Friday, March 12th. Please read this important message.Installing Outlook 98 via SMS Package Command Manager

When the SMS Package Command Manager window is displayed on your screen, Outlook 98 will be available for you to install. This window will appear every time you logon to the network until you execute the package for installation. The Outlook 98 installation will preserve your current Outlook settings.

Please print out these instructions now, so that you will have them to follow when you receive the installation package.

When you are ready to run the install, please CLOSE ALL APPLICATIONS before beginning.

In the Package Command Manager window, highlight the package and then click on Execute. (If Outlook 98 is already installed on your machine, highlight the package and then click on Archive to skip the installation.)

The installation/upgrade of Outlook 98 will begin.

PLEASE NOTE: Do not start any applications during the install.

This is a VERY SILENT INSTALL. A window will appear saying, "Preparing for installation." Then, the window disappears and your machine continues the installation in silent mode. Your machine will reboot about 10 to 15 minutes into the installation process.

After your computer has rebooted, logon to the network as usual. The installation continues by configuring Outlook 98, Outlook Express and Internet Explorer. You will see a window listing these items as it does so: Internet Explorer, Internet Tools, Security, Desktop Settings and Outlook 98 Settings. (NOTE: Netscape is still the company standard, Internet Explorer is just part of the install because Outlook is a Microsoft product.)

During the course of this setup, if your computer locks up you may need to reboot your machine. You will need to logon to the network again, but then the setup should continue this time.

The setup process may take another 10 to 15 minutes to complete. You will receive no notification that the installation is complete. If you notice there is no hard drive activity for a few minutes, then you may assume the process is finished.

Once the installation completes, please open Outlook 98 to see that it runs and that all of your folders and settings are there. (DO NOT launch Outlook Express.)

When you first launch Outlook 98, you should accept Outlook as your Contact Default, if you are asked.

Note: By default, Word is now your e-mail editor. Please contact the Help Desk if you need assistance changing this option.

Please review the Outlook 98 User Guide for additional help configuring Outlook 98, particularly with regard to Synchronization and Connection Type on launch.
