Problem description

There is a heap overflow vulnerability in the irw_through() function of the canna server which could be exploited by a malicious user to potentially gain privileges of the running canna server or cause a denial of service attack.
By default, the canna package on SuSE Linux comes already with a /etc/hosts.canna file which restricts the access to local users, i.e. only local users could exploit this vulnerability when the default setup of the SuSE canna package was unchanged. There are some other vulnerabilities because requests are not validated in several places, which could be exploited by local and remote users to cause a denial of service attack and to peep some information which might be used to exploit the above heap overflow vulnerability.
