Indications

This update is recommended for all NLPOS 9 users.

Problem description

This patch fixes several problems:
  • Bug 95237 - Fixes the translated text display problem in the FCS NLPOS9 version. The new ncurses rpm is provided for use on all servers and in all client images including the POSBranch image.
  • Bug 95595 - This fix will prevent the network interface names from changing during a reboot. Since this fix is intended for servers only, it is provided in the POS_Server2 rpm. This rpm gets installed on all servers and will also be used in building the POSBranch image. This fix is also included in a separate rpm, /opt/SLES/POS/maintenance/nld/suse/i586/POS_Network rpm, which could be included into any custom image.
  • Bug 115883 - Kernel Module jbd.ko dependency issues is fixed in the disknetboot image rpm. Pre-compiled rpm for disknetboot image is also included in this patch.
  • Bug 95882 - New patched kernel rpm is provided in the /opt/SLES/POS/pac directory which contains a fix to the EHCI driver when using USB 1.1 devices on a USB 2.0 HUB and USB 2.0 host controller.
  • Bug 96408 - Japanese language failure in Browser image
  • Bug 96409 - Traditional Chinese language failure in Java Image
  • Bug 84723 - Setting Chinese through YAST does not change desktop
  • Bug 86947 - Mozilla does not display native langs (Deutsch) properly

Solution

Please install the updates provided at the location noted below.

Installation notes

Fresh Install of Admin, Branch, or Image build servers:
  1. Download and Install FCS NLPOS9
  2. Install the updated RPMs by executing < rpm -Fvh POS_Server* ncurses* >
  3. On the Image build server you must copy the POS_Server* & ncurses* RPMs into /opt/SLES/POS/maintenance/sles/suse/i586 directory to be sure that the patches will be available for future image building.
  4. Follow the steps described in the install guide.
Upgrade existing Admin, Branch and Image build servers:
  1. Install the updated RPMs by executing < rpm -Fvh POS_Server* ncurses* >
  2. On the Image build server you must copy the POS_Server* & ncurses* RPMs into /opt/SLES/POS/maintenance/sles/suse/i586 directory to be sure that the patches will be available for future image building.
  3. Deploy the new disknetboot and minimal images as described in the install guide.
Note: If you are deploying the minimal image, please make sure to update the image version in the ldap. You can do this by using GQ or any other ldap utility.
