Linux Registration Quick-Start

Registering a Linux activation code enables access to several benefits, including:

• Access to maintenance updates and e-mail patch notifications
• The ability to open a service request, if a support contract was included with the purchase
• Activation code and user management

Use the information on this page to register an activation code and access these resources.

Registering an activation code

If the product was purchased electronically visit the registration URL given in the e-mail sent after the purchase. If the product was purchased as a boxed copy, visit http://novell.com/register and enter the activation code in the Activation/Registration Code box.

A Novell account is required for registration. Either login or create a new account when prompted. This account will be associated with the activation code and will be used to access registration benefits.

Maintenance updates and patch notifications

Updates are received differently for each Linux product. For instructions please choose the appropriate product:

• Open Enterprise Server
• Novell Linux Desktop 9
• SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 8/9
• SUSE Linux 10.0

In addition, patches can be browsed at http://support.novell.com/linux/psdb.

After registering, the e-mail address associated with the Novell account is automatically subscribed to patch notifications. To unsubscribe, follow the link at the end of these notifications.

Opening a service request

If support was included with the Linux product, or a support contract was purchased, Novell engineers can be contacted for support by using one of the following options:

Electronic Request

1. Go to http://support.novell.com/eService/
2. Log in with the Novell username and password
3. Select Submit a Service Request to enter a request.

Phone Request

1. Dial 1-800-858-4000 within the US or 1-801-861-4000 outside the US
2. Provide the contact ID given in an e-mail after registering

Activation code and user management

To view the Linux products associated with a Novell account, visit http://www.novell.com/linux/suse/useradministration.html. Here the activation codes are listed, along with their expiration dates. Click on a code to manage the users associated with it. User management allows more than one Novell account holder to access registration benefits. A basic user can access all registration benefits. In addition to this, an administrator can manage users.
