The utilities listed here extend the functionality of TS.Census License Compliance Suite, assist in normal operations, and aid in troubleshooting problems.
Using the utilities
Each utility is described and documented in a small downloadable PDF file that accompanies each utility. Utilities are designed for ease of use—but please contact our Technical Support staff if you have questions or need assistance.
Available utilities
Utilities are categorized below. Some utilities are intended for use with a specific version of a product or module. Others can be used with multiple versions of the product.
database utilities
MSDE password utility for TS.Census Desktop Edition Users
This utility is for TS.Census Desktop Edition users only. If you are unsure if you have the Desktop Edition of TS.Census, please contact our Technical Support department.
This utility adds a password to the MSDE inventory database. The MSDE installation does not currently include a password for the system administrator (sa) account, which makes it vulnerable to certain viruses. Using the utility not only makes it easier to add a password to MSDE but it also ensures continuation of TS.Census functions that require a database password.

Software Compliance Module Import Template
This Excel template file is formatted according to the import file specification for the TS.Census Software Compliance Module. You can input records directly to the spreadsheet, save it as a tab-delimited text file and then import the results directly into the Software Compliance Module. The template file also contains a worksheet tab that documents field names and definitions.

Desktop Backup and Restore
This utility can perform a SQL backup and restore of the Desktop database and contains instructions for doing the same for the FileStore at the same time. Database and FileStore backups must be done at the same time for the restore process to be successful. If they are not your system may be rendered inoperative.

Procedure for creating a duplicate database for a TS.Census Asset Inventory Client/Server installation to create a development and/or testing environment.

Ignor2.dat File Editor
Use this utility to manually edit the Ignor2.DAT file and place the edited version into use. The Ignor2.DAT file contains the list of files, file extensions, and/or directories to not include in the FNI data loaded into the database.

WIF Loader
This utility provides a method for loading Portable collection WIF files to another Collection Server if the original Collection Server is no longer available.

Remote Client Installer
The Remote Client Installer quickly deploys TS.Census Asset Inventory client software. The utility also reinstalls client services (if they have been turned off) and uninstalls the TS.Census Asset Inventory client. Using the Remote Client Installer drastically reduces the size of the files that are distributed to managed PCs. The utility supports Windows NT/2000/XP-based PCs. The Remote Installer can also be used to roll out TS.Deploy and TS.Remote client software.
Note: This file requires a password to allow .exe extraction. The password is tally.

TomCat Utility
This utility creates an ISAPI Filter to feed the Web Reports or Web Console being served by the TomCat service through MS IIS. To read about various configuration options for Tomcat and learn more about running the Web Console in your existing web server environment, please refer to our technical note entitled "TS.Census Web Console and IIS".

Credential Reminder
This utility is used to export TS.Census Enterprise Administrator and database owner credentials to a text file named LockedOut.txt. Tally Systems Technical Support can then decrypt this file and send the information back to you. For use if names and/or passwords have been forgotten.

Scan-On-Demand
This utility allows a technician to run a scan-on-demand from a workstation where the client software is installed. The Collection Editor will run only if the Collection Option Set calls for it to. This utility will work with Clients installed either as services or as applications.

Scan-On-Demand/Edit
This utility allows a technician to run a scan-on-demand from a workstation where the client software is installed. The Collection Editor is run so that configuration or user information may be updated regardless of the Collection Option Set setting. This utility will work with Clients installed either as services or as applications.

Scan by ID or Serial Number
This is a command line utility that will scan workstations by using the Workstation OID or the Serial Number as its criteria.

Delete Workstation
This is a command line utility that will delete workstations by using the Workstation OID, alone, or the Machine Name and Serial Number as its criteria.

SNMP Probe
If network discovery does not fully identify a device on your network, you can help Tally Systems add recognition to our product knowledge base by running the SNMP probe utility. The SNMP probe utility collects detailed MIB data from an SNMP-enabled device and stores it in a text file. Sending the resulting file to Tally Systems will provide us with the information required to create a 'fingerprint' that can be added, at our discretion, to our product knowledge base. Using the Product Recognition Update (PRU) process built into TS.Census Asset Inventory, Network Discovery will be continuously updated with recognition for new devices.

Lost and Found On
Microsoft SQL Server & Oracle versions of a utility to re-enable the use of the Lost and Found after the Lost and Found Off utility (see below) has been used to disable its use. Once this utility has been run, new components will be allowed to be assigned to the Lost and Found configuration.

Microsoft SQL Server & Oracle versions of a utility to disable the use of the Lost and Found. Once this utility has been run, no new components will be assigned to the Lost and Found configuration.

RemotePort/HostName Corrector
This is a utility that can automatically change the RemotePort and/or HostName setting of a client when it is incorrect.
