goal

Moving NSS Disks to OES-Linux

fact

OES Linux

Novell Storage Services

NSS

symptom

Cannot see NSS pools or volumes after moving disks to OES-Linux

cause

NSS on OES Linux is a little more complicated than on NetWare.  Several things need to be configured before the server can use the NSS Pools and Volumes.  Fortunately, there are wizards which will walk you through it.

fix

Install the NSS modules through YaST.

Configure the OES Server for NSS through YaST.  Go into System -> Novell Storage Services.  This will open a wizard which will prompt you to install the other required modules, and continue by opening the configuration wizards sequentially for each of them.  Note that as you do this it may seem it is in a loop, continually asking for the same information.  This is because it is running the configuration wizards separately.  If these are configured during install, it configures them all at once with one set of information you provide.

It will come back to the NSS Wizard, which will prompt you to create an eDirectory user object to manage the NSS.  This is necessary on OES-Linux.  This should be a new user object - you should not use your existing admin user for this.

After this is complete, you can open a shell and launch nssmu.  From here you should be able to see the pools and volumes, and be able to activate / mount them.
