How to force a workstation to check for PatchLink deployments

fix

New to PatchLink Update Server 6.2 or higher, is the ability to force a managed workstation to check for Deployments from the PatchLink Update Server (PLUS).

Setup
- The port that workstations listen on can be configured in either the Options | ZENworks Defaults tab or in a Policy through the web console.
- Default value is listed as 0, changing it to something like 2590 (if 2590 isn't used on any workstation) will change the PatchLink Agents on managed workstations to listen on port 2590.
- After the changes are made in the web console, the workstation must contact the PatchLink server to receive the change in configuration.

Operation
- To force a workstation to check into the PLUS server, once it has received its Ping Port configuration, use this syntax from a DOS prompt: "telnet ip port". If the workstation I am targeting is using 192.168.1.2, listening on Port 2590, the command would be: "telnet 192.168.1.2 2590"
- After a successful telnet command, you will see a quick set of PatchLink version information, and then the command will terminate
- The workstation, will then connect to the PLUS server to check for any outstanding work to do.

note

Agent Listener and Ping Port are interchangeable terms
