fact

Novell eDirectory 8.7.3 for Windows

symptom

Error: -6007 Cannot open local database

Error: Insufficient disk space or missing files, Error: -6007

Error: Unable to update repair status. Error: -663

change

A scheduled automatic disk defragmenter runs every day on the server

cause

It is not suggested to include the eDirectory database and configuration files in any anti-virus solution or disk defragmenter as they might cause data corruption in the database

fix

Put the eDirectory installation directory (by default this is in c:\novell\NDS) on an exclusion list for the anti-virus or defragmenter software

note

Workaround:

If you are affected by this problem you can try the following operation:

1. Stop the Novell eDirectory service

2. Copy the DIBFiles directory to a safe location

3. Use the script from "How to manually uninstall Novell eDirectory off of a Windows Server" to remove eDirectory from the server

(Warning: only use the script to remove eDirectory from the server, don't remove any objects from the tree!)

4. Install eDirectory to the server with the same server name, but with a different, dummy tree name

5. Stop the Novell eDirectory service

6. Rename the DIBFiles directory

7. Copy the DIBFiles directory from the backup created at point 2

8. Start Novell eDirectory service

If this workaround does not help, you have to completely remove eDirectory from the server, follow the TID at point 3 and reinstall the server to the tree again
