NetWare 6.5 does not recognize multiple processors on Proliant 5500

symptom

While installing NetWare 6.5 SP3 on an old Compaq Proliant 5500 server with 2 Pentium II 450MHz processors, NetWare did not recognize the second processor and non of the PSM modules included with NetWare worked on this hardware. The server's BIOS was up to date and configured for "NetWare 5.x or 6.0"

cause

Older Proliant servers rely on CPQMPK.PSM for multiprocessor support, but CPQMPK.PSM is not supported on NetWare 6.5 or OES

fix

Change the server's BIOS setting to "Windows 2000". This makes the system MPS compliant and NetWare will support multiple processors on this server through MPS14.PSM

note

The Compaq Proliant 5500 is not certified for NetWare 6.5 and neither HP does not officially support running NetWare 6.5 on this platform
