NetWare hangs or crashes.

NetWare abends in COMN.NSS.

NetWare abends in ZLSS.NSS.

cause

There are several possible causes, all communications-related.
This TID addresses two specific ones that are still under investigation.
CAUSE 1. nCircle Security Scan - "ncircle VR # 6435" causes a server hang in NetWare 6.0
CAUSE 2. CIFS vulnerability - Windows XP post SP2 sends out packet requests to which CIFS cannot respond.

fix

FIX 1: If hangs are taking place with no obvious cause, please simply check to see if a security scan is being run.
This particular scan will cause the server to hang to such a degree that the server must be powered off.
The only fix is to stop using the #6435 scan at this time.  NW 6.5 does not show the vulnerability.

FIX 2: If NetWare 6.5 is abending in COMN.NSS or ZLSS.NSS and a REBUILD has been done, please check to see if CIFS is loading on the server.  If it is, and it is not needed, disable CIFS by typing 'CIFSSTOP' at the console prompt and then REM out the command in the AUTOEXEC.NCF located in SYS:\SYSTEM.
If CIFS is required, a post SP3 CIFS patch should be available for NW 6.5.  If it is not, please contact Novell Technical Support.
