symptom

Unable to connect to the Inventory Database.  Ensure that the database object properties are set properly and Database is up and running.

Error: the configured database is not a compatible database. You are trying to access the later version of the database.

Error: "Cannot Connect to Database" with ZENworks 6.5 SP1

If you install ZDM or ZSM 6.5 SP1a to an existing ZENworks server, and then attempt to use "Configure DB" from ConsoleOne, you may receive this error.

cause

Engineering added enhanced error checking to ZDM 6.5 SP1. One of the features added was that it now checks all three username and password entries in the ZENworks Inventory DB object. If any of the six fields, i.e. 3 users and 3 passwords, is not the default value, it will not connect.

In some cases, ZENworks administrators change these values, and in other cases it appears that the ZDM 6.5 SP1 install may be changing the username values. For instance, changing from MW_DBA to MWO_DBA.

fix

To resolve this, check the usernames in the ZENworks Inventory Database object, and correct them if necessary.

If you are using Sybase as your Inventory Database, then the default values are:

MW_DBA

MW_READER

MW_UPDATER

Password for all three is: novell
