Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4 Agent MSI install

symptom

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4 Agent MSI install starts to run then exits with Error: "Problem: Install failed. MSI returned error code: 1603"

cause

Error 1603 is described in Microsoft KB 304888 as

ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE Fatal error during installation.

which is a generic failure code and has many causes. To help narrow down the cause, see TID 10061509 and enable MSI logging. In this case, by looking at the ZAPPMSI.LOG you will see PC was out of disk space.

fix

Under application object Properties, Availability- add check to application install to see if > 25MB of disk space is free.

Delete files from hard drive so that 25MB is free to install agent.
