What are the ways in which to install the Novell client?

Do I need to remove the Novell client if I want to apply a support pack?

There are several different ways in which to install the Novell client.  They are as follows:

• Run SETUPNW.EXE in either a single install, or with /ACU parameters to do an unattended install.
• Run SETUPSP.EXE to install a support pack (such as SP2 for the 4.9 client)
• Run ACU.EXE with the various ACU options.

Novell recommends that one of the above executables be used to install the Novell client.  Novell does NOT recommend that the Novell Client for Windows be installed via the "Local Area Connection Properties" of "My network places" within Windows.  The Novell Client for Windows is not currently being tested with this alternate installation method and Novell recommends that this method of install not be used.

Unless otherwise directed by the readme in the support pack, it is not necessary to first remove the client and then re-install the client with the support pack.  If you want to install a support pack, such as 4.9SP2, you can simply run SETUPSP.EXE.  Alternatively, you can run the ACU.EXE and run an unattended install of the support pack.

There are many ways to uninstall the Novell client.  The most common method is to go to Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add/Remove Programs and remove the Novell client.

Novell does NOT recommend that the Novell client be removed via the "Local Area Connection Properties" of "My network places" within Windows.  The Novell Client for Windows is not currently being tested with this alternate de-installation method and Novell recommends that this method of uninstallation be avoided.
