goal

How to import a security template (INF) into ZEN group policies

change

Beginning with ZENworks for Desktops 6.5, the ZENworks Group Policy administrator has a new option to control Security Settings in the environment.  This is the ability to import an INF into ZEN's group policies.  Because of this added ability, registry permissions, file system permissions and services can now be managed via ZENworks group policies as well as Security Options and User Rights Assignments.

fix

To create an INF for importing into either a Workstation or User Package where Security Settings are being applied, do the following on the Operating System you are managing:

1.  Start, Run, MMC

2.  File, Add/Remove Snapin.  Click Add, choose Security Templates, click Add, click Close and then OK.

3.  Expand Security Templates, highlight c:\windows\security\templates.  Right click and choose 'New Template".  Name it and say OK.

4.  Expand the newly created security template and proceed to add just the settings you would like to push.

5.  When all settings are configured, right click the newly created security template and choose Save As to save in INF format.  Save it anywhere locally or on the network.

6.  In the ConsoleOne Policy Package Group Policy, choose to Import Policies from an INF and point to the saved INF file.
