symptom

Popout window prompts to delete the secret store on login after password change.

change

Identity Manager Password Policies have been installed and initialized to provide Password self help and hints.  If the Universal Password is changed  through the portal interface using the "Change Password" URL where one is prompted to enter old password and the new password then it will be is synched into the secret store and the popup will not be seen.  If, however, the password is changed via the "Forgot Password" dialog then the password and secret store are out of synch.

cause

When a user changes his password through the "Forgot Password" dialog Secret Store is not passed the old password therefore it cannot sync the new password with the secret store credentials. On the next login that user will see a window popup asking whether he wants to remove the old secret store.

fix

Patch Fix:
There is an update to Forgotten Password.  The file is FORGOTPWDIR1.EXE, TID 2970205, available on Novell's Support site.

Manual Fix:
Though Secret Store cannot be disabled as it is part of the method by which the "Forgot Password" functionality is based one can modify a stylesheet to prevent the pop up window from occurring.  This will disable secret store from being used after the password changes outside of portal.  However, there will be errors in the log file about this when the user logs in.

1. Edit the authenticator's stylesheet found in this subdirectory:
tomcat\4\webapps\nps\portal\gadgets\com.novell.nps.authentication.Authenticator\skins\default\devices\default
Remove this line, or comment it out of the file main.xsl
javascript:popout(ssurl+gadID,"SSManage",500,550,null);

2. Bounce Tomcat and the popups should no longer appear.
