goal
AFPTCP.NLM Making Server Connections
fact
Novell NetWare 6.0
Novell NetWare 5.1
symptom
AFPTCP.NLM are Making Connections in Monitor
cause
The connections are associated with 32 threads that AFPTCP starts. AFPTCP needs a system connection to do work for the Mac Client.
The connections are not using licenses so it will not affect the number of connections you can make at the server.
fix
If you are not running MAC clients then you can remark the AFPSTRT.NCF out of your AUTOEXEC.NCF
note
If you need Mac access and want to reduce the number of connections, you can reduce the number of threads in the AFPTCP by loading AFPTCP and specifying the number of threads to use. It has been tested with 1 thread for Netware 6.0 and 3 for Netware 6.5. The syntax for threads is
AFPTCP threads <n>
<n> can be a number of threads from 1 to 32
It has been reported by some customers that performance improves when they reduce the number of threads.
