How to tell if NDPS Manager database backup has been made

fact

By default, the NDPS Manager database is backed up to NDS every morning at 1:00 a.m.

fix

There are a three different ways to tell if a backup of the NDPS Manager database is being made.

1. Probably the easiest way to tell is to look in DS Browse at the properties of the NDPS manager.  There are three attributes on the ndps manager that pertain to the backup to ds;  NDPS Database Saved Data Image, NDPS Database Saved Index Image, and NDPS Database Saved Timestamp.  All three of these attributes should show the same modification time, and the timestamp should be last night at 1:00.  (The timestamp should be even more recent if a new printer has been added to the database during the day; this forces a backup to nds if the NDPS Manger is the version that comes with NW6 sp3 or newer).

2. Enable logging for the manager, and capture the backup to nds in the log file.  Create the debug log on the server with the following commands:
NDPS MANAGER DEBUG DISPLAY = ON
NDPS MANAGER DEBUG DISPLAY = +NDS
Then in the morning type
NDPS MANAGER DEBUG DISPLAY = OFF
At this point a file called NDPSM.LOG will be created in SYS:\SYSTEM.  (Tid 10023896 tells more about creating this debug log.)

3. Move the psmdbsav.dat and psmdbsav.idx files from their normal location in the NDPS\xxxxxxxx.PSM.  When the backup to NDS is made, a backup to the file system will be made as well.  Look in the morning to see if those two *sav.* files have been replaced.
