NMAS 2.2

Novell Account Management 2.1 for Windows 2000

symptom

Password synchronization from NDS to AD fails with 4.9 or 3.34 client

Installing 4.9 client causes DirXML Password Synchronization for Windows 1.0 to fail

Installing 3.34 client causes DirXML Password Synchronization for Windows 1.0 to fail

cause

When the 4.90 or 3.34 client is installed using all default settings, NMAS login is enabled.

If a user's password expires, the NMAS change_password routine is called.

The NMAS client does not use the same change_password routine that is used by the traditional Novell client, and does not notify the DirXML password synch driver that the password change event has occurred.

fix

Working as currently designed.  NMAS does not support AD Sync or NAM sync.  (But it does support the NDS for NT sync.)

Workaround is to disable NMAS Authentication on the client workstation; go to the  "Advanced Login" page of properties of the client and uncheck the box for NMAS authentication.

This functionality is scheduled to be included in DirXML version 2.0,  if or when available.
