symptom

ROBOCOPY.EXE returns "ERROR 3 (0x00000003) Creating Destination Directory".

cause

This problem is related to the defect described with Technical Information Document 10083958 and probably is introduced with the NetWare CIFS server patch for that defect. The NetWare CIFS server now also returns DOS error code 0x03 (ERROR_BAD_PATHNAME) if all directory components in the path given with an SMB_COM_CREATE_DIRECTORY already exist. In such case it should return DOS error 0x50 (ERROR_FILE_EXISTS). Returning the appropriate error code is important, since many applications rely on this information for proper error handling.
