symptom

Power outage forces Dell PowerEdge 1650 Excelerator box to require user input to reboot.

Error message:  "Warning: system FRU is not programmed."

cause

Bug in Dell A08 BIOS.

fix

Flash Dell PowerEdge 1650 BIOS to latest revision.  BIOS revisions can be obtained from Dell's support site.

note

Fix:
-----------------------------------
1. Obtain a backup of the current BIOS on the box (A08 is the one with the problem...) from support.dell.com.
2. Obtain a copy of the A10 BIOS from support.dell.com.
3. Flash the BIOS to A10.
4. This does NOT confirm that the box can be re-imaged with the A10 BIOS flashed, hence the A08 backup BIOS.
