goal

"Unable to load the Dynamic link library NCred9x.dll"

fact

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4 - ZFD4

Microsoft Windows 98

change

Upgraded to Management Agent from ZfD4sp1bagentp1a.exe

symptom

After upgrading the Management Agent on a W98SE workstation with the agent from Zfd4sp1bagentp1a.exe, the following messages are displayed on bootup
"Unable to load the Dynamic link library NCred9x.dll", "One of the library files needed to run this application cannot be found","Some or all of the following feature is not available:","XTier Provider"
and "Unable to load ZENAUTIL.DLL. Contact your system administrator".
and after login, the message "Error Starting Program","A required DLL file, ZENPOL32.DLL2, was not found" is displayed twice.

cause

Not all files were upgraded correctly during the install, as some files had older dates that those already installed on the workstation.

fix

The readme for the patch details the correct way to upgrade the agent on a W98SE workstation; it is necessary to specify REINSTALLMODE="vamus" (case sensitive) when running the install. Either specify this on the command line if installing via MSIEXEC, or add REINSTALLMODE to the MSI properties of an MSI application object, and vamus (no quotes) as the value of that property, and rerun the install.
