symptom

Admin saw following error in Event Viewer after various re-installation attempts:

The description for Event ID ( 24 ) in Source ( PwdSync ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer.  Data: 0000: 000006ba

In the password sync agent, Admin saw the following status for the domain controller:

Status: "Unknown, registry read error".

change

Admin changed IP addresses and re-installed Password Sync

fix

DNS had not been updated to reflect the new IP addresses.  When the DNS entries for the agent and DC's were corrected, everything worked correctly.  Also check that the WINS tables reflect the correct IP addresses.
