goal
Using NetWare 6.5 NTP\Timesync in a mixed tree during migration of servers to pure NTP
Migrating to the pure NTP services offered in NetWare 6.5.
fact
Novell Netware 6.5
Novell NetWare 6.0
Novell NetWare 5.1
Novell NetWare 4.11
cause
The proper configuration in a mixed server environment is dependant on many things including the type of model desired (peer to perr, client\server, etc.) and the protocols in use. NetWare 4.11, for instance, can only communicate via NCP over IPX.
fix
During the migration period where you may have 4.11 servers using IPX and 5.0/5.1/6.0 servers using Timesync and NTP over TCP and UDP Novell recommends the use of the provided Timesync.nlm in NetWare 6.5. This will provide the same functionality and compatibility as in previous versions of Timesync.
note
Additional information regarding the setup and theory of the NTPv3 protocol using XNTPD.NLM and the use of TIMESYNC.NLM as it pertains to NetWare 6.5 can be found in the NetWare 6.5 documentation in section:Network Operating System - Network Time Protocol (NTPv3) and Netware Operating System - Time Management (Timesync).
