symptom

Unable to start GroupWise, receive message that Ordinal not found for GRPWISE.EXE

When you already installed the GroupWise client, you will get the following error: The ordinal 64 could not be located in dynamic link library MAPI32.DLL.

If you want to install the GroupWise client you will receive the following error: Cannot load packing.lst. Please contact administrator

The ordinal 185 could not be located in the dynamic link library MAPI32.dll

Installed Netscape 7, also seen problems with Netscape 4.7.

cause

If NetScape7 is installed, it puts a version of the MAPI32.DLL in the windows/system directory that will not allow GroupWise to run. Also if you remove this .dll and put in one that will work with Groupwise, then NetScape stops working.

fix

The Netscape MAPI DLLs are only installed if the user answers "Yes" to a question about using Messenger as their default MAPI client.

The installation of Netscape's DLL is entirely reversible. Select Edit/Preferences/Mail & Newsgroups and then uncheck the option for "[ ] Use Netscape Messenger from MAPI-based
applications". Netscape saved a backup copy of the original DLL and simply copies it back when this option is unchecked.
