symptom
ERROR: "ntpdate[9037]: the NTP socket is in use, exiting"
cause
The NTP daemon is already running
fix
You can stop the NTP daemon and time stamp the UNIX host, but this is not necessary. If the NTP deamon is running and configured properly, then it will keep the UNIX host's time in synch. If time is not in synch, then check the NTP configuration.
