FTPSERV.NLM version 10.01     July 26, 1999

STD0009 - FILE TRANSFER PROTOCOL (RFC0959)

symptom

NetWare 5.1 FTP Server replies with error: "550 No Such Directory".

NWFTPD.NLM replies with "550 No Such Directory" to FTP client, when using wildcard(s) in the directory path with DIR, MDIR, LS or MLS commands.

Microsoft Windows FTP client returns error: "Cannot find list of remote files.", when using a wildcard in the directory path with MGET.

change

Upgraded from NetWare 4.11 to NetWare 5.1. FTPSERV.NLM on NetWare 4.x supports wildcards in the directory path with LIST and NLST service commands.

cause

NWFTPD.NLM does not support wildcards in the directory path specified with LIST and NLST (NAME LIST) service commands. STD0009 does not prescribe how a FTP server should handle wildcards in a pathname, since the syntax of pathnames is specific to the server site conventions. This means that NWFTPD.NLM does not clash with the FTP standard regarding this issue.

fix

Submitted a defect report to engineering.

note

Steps for Duplication:
1) Install NetWare 5.1 plus NetWare 5.1 Support Pack version 4 and the latest NWFTPD.NLM patch.
2) LOAD NWFTPD.NLM on the NetWare 5.1 server.
3) Start the Microsoft Windows FTP Client (FTP.EXE).
4) Open a FTP connection to the NetWare 5.1 FTP Server.
5) Change directory to /sys/public.
6) Enter the command "ls w*32/*.dll". Wait for the NetWare 5.1 FTP Server to reply with the error: "550 No Such Directory "/sys/public/w*32".
7) Enter the command "ls win32/*.dll". The NetWare 5.1 FTP Server now returns requested list of entries with the extension .DLL in /sys/public/win32.
