Novell ZENworks for Desktops 4
symptom
ZFD4 Agent cannot be installed as a non-Administrator user to a Windows NT/2K/XP machine.
cause
The original shipping ZfD4 Management Agent install came in two forms:
1- From the ZENworks for Desktops 4 Program CD: AgentInstall\setup.exe (Currently NOT a supported method of deploying the ZfD 4 Management Agent. See TID 10078667).
This is an InstallShield executable that performs a few chores and then launches the embedded MSI. This requires Administrative privileges to launch the EXE and then the subsequent MSI.
This is just the MSI that was embedded in the above mentioned InstallShield executable. This requires Administrative rights for only one purpose - to launch the MSI. It is recommended that this Web release of the ZfDAgent.msi be used instead of the setup.exe contained on the Program CD for deployment of the ZfD4 Management Agent because of the issue described in section 2.5 of the Web release of the ZfDAgent.msi called "Readme_zfdagent.txt".
fix
Fixed in ZfDAgent.msi dated 22 April 2003 or newer available at Novell Product Updates. Instructions on how to upgrade from a ZEN 2 environment (which doesn't provide native MSI functionality) is provided in the Upgrade documentation.
