fact
Novell NetWare 5.1
Novell NetWare 6
symptom
LDAP not listening on SSL port 636.
DSTRACE of NLDAP.NLM loading shows the listener set up on port 389, but not port 636. The LDAP Server object's Screen Options tab has all options selected except "Packet Dump or Decoding".
cause
The LDAP Enable SSL attribute is missing from the LDAP Server object.
fix
Disable the SSL port in the details of the LDAP Server object, and if necessary verify that the LDAP Enable SSL attribute now shows up with a value of zero on the object in DSBROWSE. Then go back and enable it again. The attribute should now have a value of one, for enabled. Unload and reload NLDAP.NLM and it should start listening on the SSL port.
