goal
ADSync, error: "The server is unwilling to process the request."
fact
Adsync
Windows 2000
eDirectory
symptom
When creating or modifying a user in Console One, getting DStrace error "The server is unwilling to process the request.". Adding a user to Domain Admins group (or any other Active Directory group), and setting that group to be the primary group for that user at the same time, will result in the error.
cause
The error occurs because the command to change the user's primary group attribute gets sent to AD first, before that user has been made a member of the group that was just added.
symptom
The new group is not added in the AD (Active Directory) database.
fix
After adding the user to a new group (e.g. - Domain Admins), press the "Apply" button on that same properties page of that user in Console One. This will cause the new group to be sent and added for that user on the AD side. Then, selecting "Set Primary" on the new group will not cause an error since the new group will now exist in AD.
