fact

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 3.0

symptom

Error: "Could not get needed resources for application [appname.context] to be launched (id=8)"

Error: "Problem Script execution failed (2)"

fact

        The error is returned in all applications that run something in the Distribution Scripts area of an application object.

        The error occurred when NALEXPLD.EXE  was run with the /NOUPDATE switch.

        The NOUPDATE switch is used to prevent the Application Launcher program from comparing file versions on the local station with those on the server and forcing an update and subsequent reboot of the workstations if any of the files it looks for are different.

cause

When NALEXPLD.EXE or NAL.EXE are run with the /NOUPDATE switch it calls all of the executables and support modules from the server path instead of the local workstation path.  The ability to run launch scripts is inhibited by this.

fix

A work-around is to call the program from the login script using the following syntax:

;Win9x
@C:\NOVELL\CLIENT32\NALDESK.EXE

;NT/2000
@C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\NALDESK.EXE
