goal

HTTP Acceleration with SSL Authentication

fact

Novell BorderManager 3.6

Novell BorderManager 3.5

HTTP Acceleration

SSL Authentication

symptom

HTTP Acceleration with SSL Authentication fails

Internet Explorer Error: "The page cannot be displayed"

fix

Each external workstation that will access the Accelerated Web Site (with authentication enabled for the accelerator), will require an entry to the workstation's HOSTS file. Add the BorderManager server's public IP address and the Domain Name of the Accelerated Web Site. For example, "137.65.1.1   www.novell.com." The domain name must match the name used in configuring the Accelerator.

Note configuration of the HTTP Accelerator:

Accelerator Name: Enter the Domain Name of the web server, i.e., www.novell.com
Web Server Port: 80
Web Servers Name/IP Address: The IP address or the Domain Name of the web server
Proxy IP Address: Add the IP address(es) of the BorderManager server on which you want to enable acceleration.

Note:  Do not Accelerate on a different port. It will use port 443 by default.  Also, enable SSL Authentication under the Authentication Context button. Changing the SSL listening port to something other that port 443 is not necessary.
