symptom
error "The security certificate was issued by a company you have chosen not to trust. View the certificate to determine whether you want to trust the certifying authority."
cause
This message is generated by the browser because the Novell Certificate Server is not a member of the browser's trusted root certification authority listing.
fix
- From the workstation launch ConsoleOne and authenticate as an administrator for the tree.
- From the root of the tree select the SECURITY object, this will display a list of objects in the right side panel in ConsoleOne.
- Select the ORGANIZATION CA from the right and go to PROPERTIES.
- Select the CERTIFICATES tab and then choose EXPORT. *For NetWare 6 under Certificates choose Self Signed Certificate hit EXPORT and choose No to export the private key with the certificate.
- When prompted to select the OUTPUT FORMAT choose the first option "File in Binary DER Format" then select export. This will export the file to the root of the C: drive on the local system as SELFSIGNEDCERT.
- Launch Internet Explorer from the workstation and select TOOLS | INTERNET OPTIONS | CONTENT | CERTIFICATES which will display a separate window with certificate content.
- From the tabs across the top select TRUSTED ROOT CERTIFICATION AUTHORITIES then select the IMPORT button which starts the import wizard.
- On the first page select NEXT then from the next screen select the BROWSE button and change the FILES OF TYPE from the default to ALL FILES (*.*) and select the C: drive.
- Find the SELFSIGNEDCERT file and select it then choose NEXT.
- On the following screen use the default AUTOMATICALLY SELECT THE CERTIFICATE STORE BASED ON THE TYPE OF CERTIFICATE.
- Choose NEXT and finally FINISH.
- When prompted to add the certificate to the Root store select YES. Next shutdown the browser and reopen then test the connection.
