Application Error with Hummingbird FulView Plugin

Novell client 4.8

MS Windows 2000 SP2

Novell ZENworks for Desktops 3.0

Netscape or Internet Explorer v5.5

Tried different user profiles
Tried removing all client services other than Novell Client for Windows 2000

symptom

Upon attempting to view a item returned by the Fulcrum search engine, FulView launches and either Netscape or IE will then terminate and generate a Dr Watson error such as:

Application exception occurred:
        App: iexplore.exe (pid=528)
        When: 5/29/2001 @ 11:05:54.836
        Exception number: c0000005 (access violation)

The FulView viewer plugin works if you logoff then log back onto the workstation once or twice. Also, you do not see the problem if you only log into the workstation and not to a Novell server.

cause

Conflict between Naldesk.exe and the FulView plugin, caused by executing Naldesk locally (in an attempt to improve login speeds). Customer wase excuting Naldesk from the login script using the following commands

        #G:\APPS\WIN2000\NOVELL\CLIENT.48\ACU.EXE
        #F:\PUBLIC\NALEXPLD.EXE /i
        @C:\WINNT\SYSTEM32\NALDESK.EXE
        end

fix

Excuting naldesk directly from public directory using the single command line
#f:\public\nalexpld.exe resolved the problem.
