symptom

Importing users from an LDIF file into the LDAP server using ICE fails.

Importing users from an LDIF file via ICE

This commmand line given is:
ice -v -Sldif -f/root/10k.add -Dldap -s 137.65.87.80 -dcn=admin,o=novell -wpassword

ldap_simple_bind failed: 13(Confidentiality required), dn: cn=admin,o=novell

When the import is attempted as an anonymous user, an insufficient rights error is received.

cause

The password is correct, but not configured properly.

fix

If you are running Novell eDirectory 8.5, follow these steps:

1. Start Console1.
2. Open the LDAP Group Object and go to the General tab.
3. Check on the "Allow Clear Text Passwords" edit box and hit "Apply".

If you are running Novell eDirectory 8.6 or 8.7, follow these steps:

1. Start Console1.

2. Open the LDAP Server Object and go the SSL/TLS Configuration tab.

3. Clear the "Require TLS for All Operations" edit box and hit "Apply".

 You can also create a file with the server key for SSL communication.
