goal
NetWare 5.1 and Support Pack Concurrent Install
fact
Novell NetWare 5.1
symptom
The following procedures guide you through creating a CD image
that will simultaneously install a NetWare 5.1 server with the
latest Support Pack.
Both the NetWare 5.1 CD and the Support Pack contain directory
paths that exceed the DOS limits. You should create directories
to hold these files at the root-level on your local drive or on a
NetWare volume that accepts longer paths with long filenames.
fix
1.0 Creating a NetWare 5.1/Support Pack Image
To create a CD that lets you install NetWare 5.1 and the
Support Pack concurrently, complete the following steps:
1) On a local drive or a NetWare server volume, create a
\NW51CD directory at the root level.
2) Copy the all of the contents of the NetWare 5.1 CD to
\NW51CD.
3) If your NetWare 5.1 CD is English Only, create the following
subdirectories within the \PRODUCTS directory:
- \MASV
- \NICI\STARTUP
Move the following files from the \STARTUP directory to
the directories as indicated:
- MASV.NLM to PRODUCTS\MASV
- CCS.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- DOMXENG.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP (Copy this file only if
you have the domestic NetWare 5.1.)
- EXPXENG.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- XIM.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- XMGR.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- XSUP.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
4) On a local drive or a NetWare server volume, create a
\NW51SP directory.
- If you downloaded the Support Pack from the Internet, extract
the Support Pack to the \NW51SP directory.
- If you have the Support Pack on CD, copy all of the contents
of the CD to the \NW51SP directory.
5) Rename the \NW51SP\PRODUCTS\NDS8 directory to
\NW51SP\PRODUCTS\NDS873.
6) Remove the following files:
\NW51SP\INSTALL\TARS\NI.ZIP
\NW51SP\INSTALL\TARS\PRODUCTS.ZIP
7) Select all the files and directories in \NW51SP and copy
them to \NW51CD.
8) If you are using an International (Multilanguage) NetWare
5.1 CD, we recommend that you download the NICI v1.5.6 or later
files from http://www.novell.com/download. Then extract the .EXE
file and copy the files to the following \NW51CD subdirectories:
- CCS.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- DOMXENG.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP (Copy this file only if
you have the domestic NetWare 5.1.)
- EXPXENG.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- XIM.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- XMGR.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- XSUP.XLM to PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP
- NICISDI.XLM to SYS\SYSTEM
- SASDFM.XLM to SYS\SYSTEM
NOTE: Strict export laws restrict the use of NICI files
in certain countries. Before downloading and installing
any NICI files, ensure that you are downloading the
correct version for your installation locale.
9) Delete the following files and subdirectories:
\NW51CD\NISETUP.IPS
\NW51CD\SPACK.IPS
\NW51CD\INSTALL8.BAT
\NW51CD\STARTUP\LONG.NAM
\NW51CD\SP subdirectory
\NW51CD\TOOLS subdirectory
10) Move the file \SYS\SYSTEM\SMDR.NLM to the
\PRODUCTS\SMS\SYSTEM directory.
11) Extract the files in NWOVLY1.EXE to the \NW51CD directory.
If you do not have NWOVLY1.EXE, you can download it from
http://support.novell.com/filefinder.
The \NW51CD directory now contains an image of NetWare
5.1 and the Support Pack.
12) (Optional) Create a Concurrent Install CD by copying the
files and directories in \NW51CD to a CD.
2.0 Installing the NetWare 5.1/Support Pack Image
Install NetWare 5.1 by following the instructions for
upgrading or installing a new NetWare 5.1 server in the
NetWare 5.1 documentation available on the Documentation CD
that came with NetWare 5.1 or on the Internet at
http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/nw51/docui/index.html. .
