Volumes will not mount after installing the support pack

ERROR : NICI CCS: FATAL - Initialization. Control Cryptography Services are not available.

cause

The COMPAQ disk driver (CPQARRAY.HAM) was loaded but other dependant modules had not been loaded (CPQSHD.CDM).

NICI error is caused  by two extra NLM's being in the STARTUP directory of NW50SP6a when they should not be.  If you delete CCS.XLM AND XMGR.XLM out of the \STARTUP BEFORE you apply SP6a then you will not have this problem

fix

If you have already applied SP6a
1. Copy CCS.XLM AND XMGR.XLM from the \PRODUCTS\NICI\STARTUP directory onto the C:\NWSERVER and then NICI will successfully load once again. The CCS and XMGR should be 101k and 218k instead of 48k and 140k respectively.

Section 1.7 of the SP6a Addendum reads as follows :
1.7 Volumes Will Not Mount after Installing the Support Pack
On some Compaq systems, your volumes may not mount after installing the Support Pack. Complete one of the options below
to resolve this issue :
** Option 1 :  Use the Compaq drivers that existed on the server before you install the Support Pack.
** Option 2 : Copy all of the SCSIHD.* files from C:\NWSERVER\DRIVERS to C:\NWSERVER. Make sure that any necessary Compaq drivers are
present in the STARTUP.NCF file, such as CPQSHD.CDM, CPQARRAY.HAM, CPQSCSI, etc.

Another potential issue is that SP6a and after deals with the new NWPA architecture. This means that this server was changing from *.DSK files to *.HAM files.  Because the HAM drivers were not initially loaded, the support *.CDM files were not copied to the \NWSERVER directory.

If you have Compaq servers, it is a good recommendation to re-apply the latest NSSD (currently 6.10a) to the server after applying any NetWare support packs.  This insures that a)  you are using Compaq's latest supported drivers and b) Novell don't overwrite existing Compaq drivers which may or may not be the currently supported versions from Compaq.

If the above does not resolve the problem, please try the following :
LOAD NWCONFIG at the console prompt
Select "Driver Options"
Select "Configure Network Drivers"
Select "Discover and load additional drivers"
Restart the server
