pcAnywhere icon disappears from system tray after disconnecting from session

You connect to a pcAnywhere host and end the session normally. Even though the "host waiting" icon is still in the system tray, the host has actually stopped waiting for connections. If you move the cursor over the icon in the system tray, it disappears.

To resolve this issue, right click the red N in the system tray and choose Client Properties | Protocol Preferences | Select IP Protocol | Unhighlight the SLP entry in the list. 

This issue has been addressed in NWSRVLOC.DLL build 29SEP2000 or later for the Novell Client 4.71 for Windows NT/2000.  Currently the NWSRVLOC.DLL 07JUN2001 build for the Novell Client 4.71 for Windows NT/2000 is available in a partner-release file 270608.EXE available from the Novell Support Connection file finder.

This issue has been addressed in NWSRVLOC.DLL build 29SEP2000 or later for the Novell Client 4.8 for Windows NT/2000.  Currently the NWSRVLOC.DLL 07JUN2001 is available as part of 48SP3.EXE from the Novell Support Connection web site.

BACKGROUND:

When using pcAnywhere (v8.x, v9.x) to remote control a pcAnywhere host which is running the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 with IP support, intermittently the host program AWHOST32.EXE simply disappears or an access violation is generated.  The problem only occurs when the machine running the pcAnywhere host is extremely busy and running with high CPU utilization.  If the Novell client is installed with IPX-only protocol the problem does not occur.

Using the Lotus Notes client (v4.5, 4.6.1c, 5.0 and very likely others) on a workstation running the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 with IP support, when trying to close the Lotus Notes client the application hangs.  Installing the Novell client as IPX-only seems to rectify the problem but an IP only or IP/IPX installation has problems.

Customer with database hosted on a OS/390 mainframe using a self-written application in Smalltalk.  On a workstation with the Novell Client for Windows NT/2000 installed with IP support, the application will crash with an exception error reported by Dr. Watson.  If the Novell client is installed having IPX-only support or the Novell client is installed with IP support but the NWWS2SLP.DLL file is renamed or deleted, the problem does not occur.

This issue was originally fixed for the Novell Client 4.6 for Windows NT using NWSRVLOC.DLL 14FEB2000 available with the update NT46PT1.EXE from the Novell Support Connection web site.  The issue has been confirmed to re-exhibit with the Novell Client 4.71 for Windows NT/2000, and was originally addressed with NWSRVLOC.DLL 13SEP2000 available as a partner-release 246429A.EXE update.  The issues resolved by the 13SEP2000 version of NWSRVLOC.DLL were found expose additional issues that needed addressed, which were resolved by the 29SEP2000 build of NWSRVLOC.DLL. The NWSRVLOC.DLL 21NOV2001 later released with NT471PT3.EXE failed with similar symptoms as the 13SEP2000, but was addressed and superceded by the 07JUN2001 build available as described above.
