DS.NLM 8.59

symptom

Warning!  <server name> experienced a critical error, the offending process was suspended or recovered.  Services hosted by this server may have been affected."

Server abends constantly.

Server will not come up.

change

Applied DS8C.EXE

Applied DS.NLM 8.59

cause

The new DS.NLM 8.59 and other supporting modules require that you install the new NICI 1.5.3 OR LATER prior to install the new DS and supporting modules.

fix

You must apply NICI 1.5.3 OR LATER before applying this patch.  DS8D.EXE will make sure that you have applied the patch, however, DS8C.EXE will not.  To recover from the above errors and get your server back up, do the following:

1.)  Download NICI 1.5.3 OR LATER from http://download.novell.com and look under "NICI Encryption Modules".

2.)  Down the server to the C:\NWSERVER prompt and then type SERVER -NA -NS and hit enter.  This will bring the server up without the AUTOEXEC.NCF and without the STARTUP.NCF.

3.)  As soon as you get to a colon or : prompt you will type the following at the : prompt.

LOADSTAGE 1
LOADSTAGE 2
STARTUP.NCF
MOUNT SYS
AUTOEXEC.NCF

**NOTE:  You will get some public symbol errors, however, DON'T WORRY ABOUT THEM.

4.)  LOAD NWCONFIG | PRODUCT OPTIONS | INSTALL A PRODUCT NOT LISTED.  You will need to then specify the path to A:\ and install the new NICI 1.5.3.  After the installation is complete, restart the server and all will be fine.  For future reference, the DS8D.EXE has a check in the install file that will check for the new NICI, therefore, used DS8D.EXE and patch up to the new NICI.
