goal

How can I reboot a server when I am not at the site to type in "server" at the DOS prompt or use a startup switch -NDB to boot the server.
NOTE: Starting the server with -NDB allows DS to load but keeps the Directory Services database closed until a repair is run.  You only want to use this switch if the NDS database is corrupted on the server.

fix

NW4.11 server steps:
Here are the steps to reboot a server remotely:
 - Create an NCF file called RESTART for example -
Load Edit, type in C:\RESTART.NCF, and say Yes to create:
           Add; REMOVE DOS
                     DOWN
                     EXIT
 - Exit and save this file. It should be on the root of the server's C: drive, C:\RESTART.NCF
Note: If you save this file on the C: drive, this prevents someone from accidently running this file, therefore rebooting the server. If its
saved to the SYS:SYSTEM directory, then anyone who types RESTART at the console prompt will be rebooting the server. You
may not want that.
Next, edit the C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add the line;
                CD\NWSERVER
                SERVER -NDB
Be sure REMOTE is loading in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file, so that you will be able to get your RCONSOLE session back once the
server comes back up. Once these files are created and edited, your now ready to reboot.
At the console prompt, type:
SEARCH ADD C:\ and press enter
Then type: RESTART

NW5 server steps:
Edit the C:\AUTOEXEC.BAT file and add -NDB to the line starting SERVER
For example: SERVER -NDB
At the console prompt, type: RESET SERVER
(this command is the same as using the 3 command lines, Remove DOS, DOWN, and EXIT)
Be sure REMOTE is loading in the AUTOEXEC.NCF file, so that you will be able to get your RCONSOLE session back once the
server comes back up.
RESET SERVER: this is the same as pushing the reset button, or like a cold boot, it will use the autoexec.bat file to start the CPU
and brings it back up again without intervention.
RESTART SERVER: merely takes the server down to a DOS prompt, then brings it back up again without intervention.
Search String: remote boot up abend start restart ncf autoexec.ncf no database directory services ds
